Swiss Cycling is bidding on behalf of Switzerland for the 2024 UCI Road World Championships, with Bern and Zurich in the running to host.
At its Congress in Innsbruck, cycling's world governing body UCI awards the 2024 UCI Road World Championships to Switzerland.

«Metzgeten», smoky nights and a surprise world champion. Zurich has already seen great things in cycling. The legendary Züri-Metzgete, a European classic cycle race held annually, had cycling fans flocking to the streets. In the Hallenstadion, the “temple of strong calf muscles”, professional cyclists - simply unthinkable today – conducted their laps in cigarette smoke and beer fumes at the Six Days of Zurich. And in 1946, the last time the World Cycling Road Championships were held in Zurich, a local took all the favourites by surprise. Hans Knecht from Albisrieden won the title in a memorable race.
