RZ in Fantasy Football
RZ stands for the red zone. It’s an in-game acronym that allows you to know when a player on your team is in the red zone and potentially close to scoring a touchdown. The designation can alert you to flip over to that specific game or use the RedZone channel to see if your player will find the end zone.
What is the Red Zone in the NFL?
The red zone is the area on a football field from the 20-yard line to the end zone or goal line. A team is in the red zone if they are within 20 yards of scoring a touchdown. It’s so important, that the NFL has dedicated an entire channel to it called the “Red Zone Channel.” It’s extremely difficult to score touchdowns in football so when a team is close, it’s a huge deal for fantasy owners.
Why Does RZ Matter?
Touchdowns are extremely important in fantasy football and are one of the main ways to accumulate fantasy points. If you have a player in the red zone, they are more likely to score a touchdown than if they are on the other side of the field.
In most fantasy football leagues, scoring a touchdown is worth 6 points. In 2023, the leaders in rushing touchdowns were as follows:
That’s a lot of fantasy points for reaching the end zone and anyone who had these players was always paying attention when they were in the red zone.
If you enjoy watching multiple games or tuning into your players when they are close to scoring, the RZ next to a quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, etc alerts you to flip over to the game to see what happens next.
